How to Cook a Steak, Courtesy of the Famous Taste Express

Imagine having 30,000 of your closest friends over for a BBQ. Sound daunting? Well that’s a typical weekend in the life of the Famous Taste Express truck. Our mobile BBQ makes its way across Alberta each summer, firing up its grills at concerts, festivals and even grocery store parking lots; with the goal of reminding Albertans about the great taste of our most precious commodity – juicy, delicious Alberta beef.

We are constantly asked what our secret is. How do we manage to cook up a perfect steak, time and time again?  The answer is simple: you have to start with a quality product. All of our steaks are produced right here in Alberta, and are available for purchase across the province. If you’re unsure, just ask your butcher if it’s Alberta Beef. We prefer to use a top sirloin cut or striploin cut, as we find them very tender, and perfect for grilling.

You might be surprised, but we don’t use any marinades when cooking on the Famous Taste Express – simply a dash of salt and pepper before we throw them on the grill. We like to heat up the grill prior to cooking the steaks, so that we can sear in all the juices.  The online casino steaks themselves should be room temperature prior to grilling. We cook the steaks for roughly 3 to 5 minutes per side, only flipping once. The cooking time depends both on the thickness of the steak, as well as how you like it prepared. We cook ours medium rare for the samples on the Famous Taste Express. After removing from the grill, let the steak rest for about 5-10 minutes before serving.
